Windows 7 God Mode!

Recommended Posts

If you are using Windows 7 and are looking for some cool things to do, this post is for you. Windows God Mode is a way to access everything from your computer properties to hardware profile, from folder options to user info all in one place.

It would seem that somebody at Microsoft still has a sense of humor. If you are using win7 (possibly also vista 32bit) and rename a folder "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" It will become a very convenient aggregation point for lots of windows system settings.

This will not harm your computer, windows god mode is simply a little "Easter Egg" hidden in the system. Looks like a nice active directory type layout of all the admin stuff you could ever want to change. Now, that being said, if you don't know what you are doing on a computer, just like the registry Don't Mess Around In Here!

For everyone else, have fun!

-Nick

Oh, you'll be fine Kari, you just know how you got to put a disclaimer on everything these days. I just wanted to make sure nobody had a fork in the toaster while taking a bath and testing out Windows God Mode all at once...lol

It is definitely a pretty cool Windows 7 secret. I don't know why Microsoft just didn't make the Windows 7 God Mode a new admin panel, instead it's hidden away. Oh well, cool all the same I suppose. I am curious how many more hidden features we will be finding out about in the near future, there's gotta be some more than just this one, you would think.

Another "Easter Egg" which I can suggest. Try creating a directory named "CON"... and solitaire is my favourite game and there is a shortcut key to win in a second.

3 cheers to software guys!!!

This will create a cheat for solitaire? I will give it a try and see what happens.

I tried to create a folder named CON and all I get is an error message saying that it is not a valid folder name? Any suggestions. I wonder if this works different on different distros of Windows 7, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate [version 6.1 (build 7600)] on my current install.

Its impossible to create a folder called "CON" on all versions of Windows, its because of old DOS functions apparently.

Heres some Windows games secrets, if anyones interested B)

Minesweeper

Secret - Reveal Mines

Instructions - Minimize or close all running applications. Launch Minesweeper, then type xyzzy. Next hold down either shift key for one second. Now when you move the mouse cursor over a Minesweeper square you will see a tiny white pixel in the top left corner of your desktop screen. This pixel will change to black when your mouse moves over a mine. You may need to change you desktop background to a solid color other then white or black to see the pixel.

Pinball

Secret - Extra Balls

Instructions - Type 1max at the start of a new ball to get extra balls.

Secret - Gravity Well

Instructions - Type gmax at the start of a new game to activate the Gravity Well.

Secret - Instant Promotion

Instructions - Type rmax at the start of a new game to go up in ranks.

Secret - Skill Shot

Instructions - Launch the ball partially up the chute past the third yellow light bar so it falls back down to get 75,000 points. There are six yellow light bars that are worth a varying amount of points:

First: 15,000 points

Second: 30,000 points

Third: 75,000 points

Fourth: 30,000 points

Fifth: 15,000 points

Sixth: 7,500 points

Secret - Test Mode

Instructions - Type hidden test at the start of a new ball to activate Test Mode. No notification will be given that this is activated but you can now left-click the mouse button and drag the ball around.

Secret - Unlimited Balls

Instructions - Type bmax at the start of a new ball. No notification will be given that this is activated but when a ball is lost a new ball will appear from the yellow wormhole indefinitely. Once this is activated you will be unable to activate other secrets without restarting

FreeCell

Secret - Instant Win

Instructions - Hold down Ctrl + Shift + F10 during game play. Then you will be asked if you want to Abort, Retry or Ignore. Choose Abort, then move any card to instantly win.

Secret - Hidden Game Modes

Instructions - In the "Game" menu choose "Select Game". Enter -1 or -2 to activate the hidden game modes.

Solitaire

Secret - Instant Win

Instructions - Press Alt + Shift + 2 during game play to instantly win.

Secret - Draw single cards in a Draw Three game

Instructions - Hold down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT while drawing a new card. Instead of drawing three cards you will only draw one.

Hopefully that list will be able to provide some entertainment :D

I saw the cool video. It is amazing. If one can access everything including the folders all at one place, the God mode would make our job much easier and also would help us perform work at a faster pace.
