Do we need https SSL for better SERPS

Recommended Posts

I read this on another forum recently:

Also worth noting that the security status of web sites is also taken into account in the SERPS now, certainly be Google.

For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it's only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.

So serving your site via HTTPS will also give it a slight boost in the rankings.

I am wondering if there is any truth in this?  What increase in site visitors if my website, which is not e commerce at all, was served with HTTPS.  It would nearly double my hosting charge by  another £5 a month just for the SSL.

I note that tow of the major UK  house builders are now HTTPS, do they know something?

A whole whack of people rushed off and moved to https without considering the "affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content" part of the Google post.

According to recent analysis by digital marketing software and services provider Searchmetrics, HTTPS does not impact rankings and there is no discernible difference between HTTP and HTTPS.

Thanks for this. But I don't agree with this, that HTTPS boost (SERPS) ranking. According me very easy to get better ranking with use HTTP URLs. Because HTTPS is not cache & index in easy way.
