AVG Free 2011

Recommended Posts

I use AVG free 2011. One thing that really bugs me is when I boot up in the morning and go on the web the AVG update kicks in and slows the whole computer down to a crawl until it has updated usually in around three or four minutes.

I have turned of the automatic update but the damm thing still does it.

Does anyone have any idea on how to make the AVG manual update only?

I could then do it once a week. I am willing to take that slight extra risk!

See if you have it setup to check/scan on boot. (when Windows starts)

I have mine set to scan starting at lunchtime and haven't really noticed a huge slow down.

Have it set to auto update also.

No WW what it is it is the UPDATE still happens even though I have turned it off!

I have the scan set to manual as I only do a virus scan every now and then

But updating is good! ;) Even if you don't actually scan the computer regularly (which you really should do) the anti virus program is running in the background constantly protecting you.

It just seems that AVG is taking over the control.

I dont mind updating once a week and would never turn off anti-virus but not being able to do anything for the first ten mins each day is a pain!

Jasper,

There must be something about you have this installed or setup. I have no lag on startup.

Are you sure you don't have it set to scan on Windows startup?

Have it pickup the updates some time in the day other than on start up.

You should really considering switching to Microsoft Security Essentials, by FAR the best antivirus program I have ever used. Never slows down the PC, uses hardly any resources, and never gets in your way unless you are actually infected.

Yes WW I am sure I dont have it set up to scan on start up.

I also turned off the autoupdate in the overview menu too.

But it still updates everytime and slows the PC down to a crawl.

Hi Jasper,

I used to use AVG until my pc went down, I now use another FREE antivirus program called Avira AntiVir. I now have used this for over a year, no problems and it dosn't slow your PC down like AVG did.

I hope this helps you

I have also used Avira in the past. I cannot remember why I changed back to AVG.

Whatever you do dont used Avast as you can never really get rid of it!
