    Facebook Data Breach

According to UpGuard, a cyber risk solution company, 540 million Facebook user data records were compromised after third-party apps and sites stored data on unsecured servers. Social Media Toda reported that there has been a decline in usage YOY. This is not surprising since there has been a rise in other social platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. I have been less active on the social platforms for some time now. When I post, it's usually related to marketing or local news, but the posts are few and far between. The social media platforms used to be fun when they first launched due to their novelty and the ability to easily connect with past friends, but it's not as attractive anymore, especially after these data breaches. Are you still active on social media? If so, which platforms?

    Google Responsive Display Ad Specs

Occasionally, clients want to write their own copy for Google Display Ads or want to provide image ads. Responsive display ads, while not as pretty, are more effective since they fit into more spaces, especially when it comes to mobile devices. I usually suggest responsive ads, and in doing so, I provide them with the specs. I figured that since I have to send them this info, there may be others that are looking for the specs too. Below is what can be used when creating display ads. Headlines (Up to 5 headlines) 30 characters Long Headline (1) 90 characters Descriptions (Up to 5 descriptions) 90 characters URL (Landing Page) YouTube Video (Up to 5) Images (Up to 5) Landscape (1.91:1): 1200×628 (min required: 600×314, max file size: 5120KB) Square: 1200×1200 (min required: 300×300, max file size: 5120KB)

    Google+ is no more!

This could happen with any company or platform. It has happened in the past and it will happen in the future. When it comes to marketing, sometimes companies place too much faith in third-party sites like Facebook. It's important to use the platform while it's "hot", but what many companies forget is that social networking can take place on their own sites via their blogs.

    Security Flaw In Google Chrome

Google announced that there is a security flaw in its Chrome browser and you would need to update now. If you have the newest version (72.0.3626.121), there is no need to update. You could read more about it here. https://lifehacker.com/update-google-chrome-right-now-1833101352

Google Chrome Will Stop Supporting Symantec HTTPS Certificates

Here is a tool provided by Symantec to see if your SSL will be affected https://www.websecurity.symantec.com/support/ssl-checker
  7. In the next Chrome update expect to be released on October 16, Chrome 70 will start blocking sites that use Symantec certificates issued before June 2016, including legacy branded Thawte, VeriSign, Equifax, GeoTrust, and RapidSSL certificates. Inbound Sales Process

It's interesting that they don't mention Freshbooks as an invoicing software. Slack is a software we use for internal communications. It's a good software that makes it easy to separate groups, and to be able to share with a group or individually through Direct Message.

    Facebook Data Breach Sept 2018

To find out if your account was hacked; you would have been logged out of Facebook. Just to make sure, view the Security and Login page in Settings and check where you are logged in. If you see any devices that you don't recognize, log them out. For extra security against future attacks, you can set these up in the Security and Login page Turn on Two-Factor Authentication Set up alerts from unrecognized logins Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you get locked out

    Wordpress templates

I have used templates from the following site: Studio Press https://my.studiopress.com/themes/ To use these themes it will require you to get the Genesis Framework. Here are some details on what the framework is about https://www.studiopress.com/features/ Elegant Themes https://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/ Theme Forest https://themeforest.net/ From the three sources, I have been mainly using Studio Press. I like the framework and overall, it's easier to use.

    Google Chrome Login Change

It seems that Google decided to make some changes in the next Chrome update next month. The default setting will still log people into Chrome, but after the update, people will be able to log out of the browser. The issue, however, is that many people, if not most, don't look at or even know how to make changes to their browser settings. This means that they will be logged in and tracked. A little sneaky if you ask me. You can read more here https://techcrunch.com/2018/09/26/google-to-give-chrome-users-an-opt-out-to-forced-login-after-privacy-backlash/

    Hubspot Marketing Packages

One of our clients used HubSpot's Marketing package. The software is quite extensive. However, at $50/month you don't get much.

    Google Chrome Login Change

Updating your Google Chrome browser to the latest version 69, will now automatically sign you into the browser without your permission - it seems. Chrome recently updated on my PC and I started noticing that my profile picture from Gmail started showing up in my browser. You can see the screenshot below. By signing into your browser, Google starts collecting data about your browsing habits and personalizes Chrome and other services like Search and ads. I like Chrome, but moves like this make me question Google's intention when I am not even prompted or notified of signing in. I have now logged out of Chrome by following these instructions https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/185277. [Edit] It seems that when I log out of Chrome I can't sign into my Gmail account or other services. When I do sign into Gmail, it automatically signs me back into Chrome. I'm not ready to change browser yet, but I may be tempted to try something else. I do use Opera https://www.opera.com/ occasionally to test certain sites and search results out, which may be a good alternative. Does this change make you want to change browser? You can read more about this change here https://textslashplain.com/tag/privacy/

    How to start SEM?

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) was once used as an umbrella term that included SEO and PPC marketing. Today, it's mainly used to describe Paid Search. Search Engine Marketing is specific to search engines, so when you state boosting a Facebook page, it is technically not SEM or Paid Search but will fall under PPC advertising. There are two main platforms for Paid Search, Google Ads, and Bing Ads. These platforms will require you to allocate a daily budget - so yes, you will need a budget. The other part that may require a budget is if you hire a PPC manager to manage the accounts. You can do this yourself, which would save you from paying someone, but more often than not, a person running a business or website does not have the time to learn how to maximize the return from the campaigns. A PPC manager, however, is a specialist that will help you maximize the returns. I often get asked how much of a budget should a person or company should allocate to paid search. The amount is dependent on the size of the company, and its resources. For small businesses, I usually reply by telling them that the budget for paid search should be like investing in your retirement. People who save money for their retirement will invest an amount that does not disrupt the day-to-day living standards. It is an amount that is affordable and that will be used at some point in the future. For small businesses, allocating a budget that will not disrupt their cash flow is key. Paid search requires some time before it sees returns, so whatever money is invested should yield a positive return at some point. When that happens, they can reinvest the returns back into advertising which would then fuel further growth.

    Massive Links Forum Has Moved

The Massive Links Forum has moved to a new domain and has been renamed Web Marketing Help Forum. Previously the forum was in a subdomain on MassiveLinks.com and I wanted to make it a standalone site. The goal is to increase the traffic and activity on the site so that people can share and help one another, and changing the domain is the beginning of that process. If you notice any issues, please let me know. FYI, you may need to clear your cache if you are having problems with some of the images.
